Volvo introduced its first I-Shift to Europe in 2001 and subsequently brought it to the North American market in 2007. Since then, more than a million Volvo Trucks around the world have been sold with the Volvo I-Shift transmission. In 2013 the I-Shift was made a standard feature across the entire model range, resulting in a current overall order rate of 94%.

With advancements in I-Shift AMT, the vocational truck market is currently witnessing a major shift. AMTs and torque converter automatics are squeezing out the manual transmission.
